"General Surgeons Warning: Smoking is detrimental to your health. "

Going back to my milart roots~! A sketch of a Special Ops Operator...*sigh* i loooove my Oakley assault boots, but damn if the quality isnt shit. Comfy as hell, but the soles are worn pretty much flat after only a year, and the damn thing has the traction of a squid on wet surfaces when it rains.

Although maybe i should move away from the brown/dessert stuff...and apparently my wardrobe consists of much tan/khaki/brown/olive stuff, as :iconukitakumuki: has commented. D:

I gotta agree with Oakley gear's quality/durability being pretty absent. For the prices they command, they're disappointing. Not to mention the company's lame warranty. Of course they were bought out by Luxxotica a few years back, doubt it'll ever get better again.

Their eyewear is stylish, but also overpriced.

I second the musings on Oakley boots... holy shit are they comfy... but I've owned mine since Christmas and already the heel is starting to flatten out...
I hear the vibram soles on the current-issue versions are supposed to last longer, though

I know what you mean about the Oakley gloves. Mine got stolen, though, and my Wiley-X's fell apart pretty damned fast. The best ones I had for a while, surprisingly, was 5:11. I even cut the trigger, middle finer, and thumb off those gloves, burned the frays, and stitched them half-ass'd and they still wouldn't fall apart on me. One of the better gloves I ever had, though they lack in massive padding and the hardened knuckles for punching glass.

I haven't checked how well Mil-Spec's work yet. Maybe I'll try those next. Or maybe I'll just keep with my 5:11's.

Great picture. I went looking through all the details and I must say I really wish more people would draw ODA like you and Ashley Boone do. My ONLY issue is how you have the radio on the back. He would need someone else to mess with that radio should something be wrong with it, like being on the wrong channel or needing a battery change. Most military personnel, because of this, prefer to have it on their front somewhere, the most popular location being on the their left-side either below the shoulder or lower towards the waist, where they'd either D-ring the antenna over their left shoulder or pit it under their arm so it comes up the left side of their back.

Like I said, outstanding picture. More milart, NOWS.

Personally, I like the para cord wrapped on his knife handle - I've used to use the stuff for EVERYTHING. You can't have enough parachute cord (had it on my boonie, my M16 mags before they had "MAG PULs", knife handle, modified the sling on my M4 to operate like an MP5 3 point before they made 3 points for M4's...). You can use that line for so many survival situations.

Great art, too - the shemagh (sp?) is a nice touch with the SF beard.

Got that EOTECH on my current M4 (sometimes use it on a Romanian AKM).

Haha, we all make do with whatever we can to hold stuff in place. Duct tape and paracord are invaluable...as someone once said: "Duct tape is like the Force, it holds the universe together."
What do you do, if i might ask...?

:D I harken back to the days when operators duct taped large Maglites to their carbines forearm! Before Blackhawk Industries and others brought us all the high speed/ low drag options.

I work as a private consultant on defensive tactics nowadays, mostly teaching survival techniques and such. Sorry about the dodgy answer... But I do appreciate your keen eye for detail on an operator's kit. Most artists can't even get the basics right.
On DA, I represent my hobby and freelance art business (very small business).

Lol. Quite man...duct tape is the end all for tactical add ons. Can understand ur answer, opsec or whatever they call it...but yeah, i get annoyed at artist who dont understand the subject matter theyre illustrating, especially mil-art! Esp those who cobble bits of guns together...ugh.

When I was young, I was guilty of not using reference material, too.
You'd think those who cobble bits of guns together would realize that it's like throwing a car drawing together from a Ferrari, a Fiat, a Volkswagen and a Honda...

I have a pair of Danner boots that have worn really well.
Not sure if 5.11 or Converse are any better than the Oakley. Been on those Danners for so long haven't bothered to get another pair.

ACR rules. Sad that they are around $3K for the one you pictured (before suppressor, optic, and foregrip)

ACR is like what Prada is to handbags i guess: boutique assault rifle. I wonder if any one has bought their own to take out into the field yet, since it only just hit the market...but USD 3k...damn.

The standard version isn't coming out until next month. I think Bushmaster had MSRP at around $2400, then Enhanced in may (which is the one we've all been seeing) with MSRP of $3050. I think really we'll be seeing them for about $200 less than that at retail. Or at least that was what came out at SHOT. (It's on their website too).

Bushmaster/Remington it seems is trying to recoup their tooling costs quickly. So, if they sell okay I'm expecting a major price drop sometime next year. I guess we'll see. Really great design, we'll see about construction, but that price seems excessive. Especially without a ultra match trigger or barrel. I've yet to hear a reason that doesn't involve "tooling costs" as to why it costs that much.

Yeah man, I hear you on the Oakley boots. I had mine for about 3 months before the soles started separating...superglue worked well for that though. Like wearin tennis shoes.

I worked with a few spec ops guys that looked like this...one of em had slicked back hair and similar tattoos. No SCAR though...nice work

You know, if they just made the soles out of Vibram, it would be fantastic. Or i dunno, maybe the way the treading is molded, is just a recipe for them to be worn down faster. I dont know about the wear of the newer model with the more traditional 'grid' type treads though...its just a very comfy pair of boots.

Worked with a few Specops dudes? What do u do? Secret squirrel stuff cum part time artist? Btw, i really dig the kneeling Knight piece. Do you mind if i do something similar in the future? With inspiration by your piece of course...:)

Cheers.

No prob...I'm coloring in a picture of myself thanks to seein your spec ops guy. I was an aircraft maintenance officer in the air force, but I augmented the army and marines for one deployment and got to ground pound for a while. Didnt do too much exciting stuff, but ran a ton of convoys and logistics.

You play paintball? If so...check out my teams website...it's kind lame right now, but we're workin on a new design: [link]

They went to England in Jan for the first international tournament. We're sponsored by these guys and were askin if they were planning on hitting up Australia...they apparently want to, but it's yet to be determined.
